How to Use Search

Select from the left hand box to to view all our flower bulbs from that Genus or Family, OR use the right hand search box and input the Specific Name of the plant you wish to find eg. Crocus speciosus. Simply putting in a broader term such as speciosus might be useful, but will bring up any match for this name. In this field you can also search by Common Name (eg Daffodil or Lent Lily) and use the Item Code in our catalogue to find a plant eg 101-4 (you need to include the hyphen).

Dahlia Ragged Robin

Product Description: 1 tuber
Order Code: 26-10
Availability: Currently Unavailable to Order

The most vigorous of our own bred varieties. This one has pretty pointed cardinal-ruby red petals arranged several layers deep around the yellow boss at the centre. The foliage is small and green but the stems are dark and wiry displaying the structure of the plant beneath. Small tubers are despatched in March and April, the building blocks for a summer sizzler!

Love them or hate them? Dahlias generally bring out that sort of reaction in gardeners. The varieties we have bred and registered are smaller flowered forms with more, but individually smaller flowers of less regimented proportions - for which reason they do seem to fit really well into the cottage garden without causing offense! With warmer and drier winters many are leaving their Dahlias to fend for themselves, but "officially" they do need lifting and drying to be kept frost free over winter. And to get the longest season from them do try to pot them up in a greenhouse or porch in early April so that after the frosts have passed and with the warmer soil conditions of early summer they really get a flying start. Deadheading is a slight chore, but will reap its rewards with new flushes of flowers. If really dry do water around the roots and remember to plant them in as much sun as you can. Cuttings in the early summer are possible and will give you young vigorous plants but do remember that these plants are covered by Plant Breeder's Rights and may not be sold on.
