Dichelostemma congestum

A compact ball of very long-lasting lilac-purple flowers.

A compact ball of very long-lasting lilac-purple flowers 2"-3"(5-7 cm) across and  24" (60cm) tall. Native to California, Oregon and Washington in the Western USA, these grow naturally in open, grassy areas and are known locally as Forked-tooth Ookow. The flowers are purple, much like the head of an Allium, with 3 white corona projections, growing up to 24" (60cm) high. 2 or 3 grassy leaves grow from the base of the stem. They flower over a long period and tolerate high temperatures well.

Good for cut flowers, but be careful as the sap is caustic.  Gloves would probably be a good idea.

Planting instructions

Plant about 10 bulbs per square foot or 2-3" (5-7.5cm) apart, and 3-4" deep in a sunny, sheltered site, on well drained soil.
