Erythronium Pagoda
Sulphur yellow petals with mottled leaves, in shady areas, not too dry.

A vigorous hybrid of E. tuolumense which comes from California, and like all Erythroniums grows naturally in woods or meadows.  Each tuber has up to 10 nodding, star-like flowers with sulphur-yellow petals, a brownish central ring and yellow anthers. It grows easily in soil mixed with leaf mould under the shade of deciduous trees.  The leaves are green with faint white marbling and grow to 8" (20cm) long while the plant grows 10- 14" (25-35cm)high.  It will form clumps and can spread. Flowers in April, pale yellow 10-15" (25-38cm) tall with slightly mottled green leaves.

Planting instructions

Best grown out of too much wind as this can damage the leaves. Do not let the tubers dry out and plant them point up with 4" (10cm) of soil over the tuber, and 5-7" (12-18cm) apart in a cool, well-drained position where it will not become too sun-baked in summer such as under shrubs and trees, whose roots will take away excess moisture.
