Gladiolus

The ‘named’ dwarf gladioli flower in the early summer. Short enough not to need staking, they do not overpower the garden as do some of the larger forms. The named forms make particularly good cut flowers too. They do grow away quickly, however, and an early mild spell in spring may result in foliage being susceptible to severe frost, so mulching is possibly needed. Consequently, plant in a sheltered site in well-drained soil, on a bed of sharp sand.
