Leucojum aestivum Gravetye Giant

The "Loddon Lily". White bells, emerald-tipped, hang from bare stems with glossy green daffodil like foliage.

Commonly known as 'Snowflakes' .  Thrive particularly well in damp, even winter-flooded, partly shaded areas, but remarkably tolerant or other situations. Native of Europe and SW Asia to Northern Iran, growing in wet fields, woods and swamps especially near rivers flowering from March to May.  Smaller flowering than L vernum, having 3-7 flowers per umbel.  Leaves emerge in winter. Seed pod swollen and filled with air so that it will float and be dispersed by water.  Happy in waterlogged conditions. White flowers in April/May to 18" (45 cm) tall.

Planting instructions

The daffodil-like bulbs should be planted in the autumn 5" (12.5cm) deep and 6" (15cm) apart.
