Scilla bifolia
A dwarf early species with starry, purple-blue flowers over waxy leaves.

An easy dwarf early species with starry purple-blue flowers over waxy leaves. S.bifolia naturalises under shrubs or in light grass to receive summer shade where the massed heads really create the purple haze. Flowers from Febuary  to March and reaches 6" (15cm).

Planting instructions

The Scillas are easily grown blue flowered bulbs which add greatly to the richness of the spring tapestry.  The early Scilla species flower in the sun, planted where they will get summer shade, 3" (8cm) deep and 2"-3" (5-8cm) apart. Later on, the larger forms generally cope better with more damp and shady conditions, planted 3"-4" (8-10cm) deep and 3"-4" (8-10cm) apart. The latest-flowering ones do like it warmer and drier, sometimes remaining nearly evergreen.
