Tulipa Purissima
Creamy white flowers on strong stems.

Tulipa Purissima used to be known as White Emperor, one of the 'Emperor' or Fosteriana tulips, with its origins around Samarkand.  It has huge white petals with ivory veining at the base and startling black anthers.  It blooms in early spring (March/April) at about 18" (45cm) high.  Slightly fragrant it is stunning planted in drifts, perhaps alongside grey foliage, and in fertile soil will return for many years.  The stems are sturdy, making it a good garden plant and also fine for flower arranging.

Planting instructions

Plant it in full sun in rich, well-drained soil, in groups of 5, about 7 per square foot, or 5" (12cm) apart and 6" (15cm) deep.
