A real character amongst the tulips, Shirley is a changeling! A Single Late form, she starts off really quite ivory or even creamy white with slight purplish speckling, then as the flower matures the pale background colour fades to a clearer white whilst the speckles develop into a purple edge to the petal with dark staining in purple. Gradually the purple develops to become the more dominant colour. Interesting throughout. For a sunny site in the garden, flowering in April/May, 20" (50cm) tall.

With whites, purples or pale yellows.

Planting instructions

Plant the bulbs 5" (12cm) deep and 5" (12cm) apart, or allow 7-9 per square foot in a position that has a sunny aspect at flowering time in May.
